Start through the official intake

Use Jacobwise & Co.’s Start Your Return process to provide initial information. The established onboarding process sends an email for access to the SuiteDash client portal. Verify the sender and use the official website if a message seems unusual.

Ask the team how to obtain help if the invitation does not arrive or a portal step is unclear. Do not share your portal password, IRS login or authentication codes with anyone.

Prepare a complete Houston tax file

Texas does not have an individual income tax, but federal reporting and possible returns in other states still require review. Houston professionals with out-of-state work, rentals or a recent move should provide the relevant locations and dates. A Texas address alone does not settle the other state’s rules.

Gather wage statements, investment and retirement forms, business records, dependent information and prior returns. Homeowners should include property-tax records where relevant. Use the portal for sensitive documents and confirm with the team before sending Social Security numbers or tax forms through ordinary email.

Review before you authorize filing

Ask how missing documents, questions and changes will be communicated. Review the completed return, filing status, income, deductions, bank information and any balance due before signing the authorization. Electronic filing does not mean the return can be filed without your approval.

Keep copies of the return and acceptance confirmations. Confirm who will answer a follow-up question or help interpret a notice. Virtual preparation is useful when it gives you a complete process and access to personal assistance; it should not require guessing whether your documents were received or your return was submitted.
