Match the tool to the return

DIY filing can work well when you understand your income, have complete records and can resolve eligibility questions. Before choosing any product, including Cash App Taxes, check the provider’s current supported forms, state coverage, filing situations, support and terms. Product features change; a historic review should not be treated as a current feature list.

The price alone does not establish whether a product meets your needs. A return involving several states, a business, rental property, digital assets or an IRS notice may require analysis beyond entering forms.

Compare the work and support

With DIY software, you generally remain responsible for gathering records, selecting treatments and checking the result. Professional preparation adds a person who can ask follow-up questions and explain the choices, within the scope of the engagement. Neither software nor a paid preparer removes the taxpayer’s responsibility for accurate information.

Ask who will answer questions after filing, whether state returns and amendments are included, and what assistance is available if a notice arrives. Distinguish preparation, audit assistance and representation; they are separate services.

Choose with your documents in front of you

List every income source, state connection and major life change. Check whether your method supports each item. Review the completed return before approving it and keep a copy and filing acknowledgment.

If you use Jacobwise & Co., ask about the document-upload and review process and the services included in your engagement. For eligible taxpayers who prefer DIY filing, IRS Free File is another option to investigate through IRS.gov. The best choice is the one that supports an accurate return and gives you the help your circumstances require.
